Opening Day

Anxiety; anxiety is all I feel.

Everything I read

And everything I watch

Only makes it worse

When will it start?

How long will it last?

How deep will it be?

Fantasies of snow swirl in my brain

I carefully deliberate what gear to acquire to help turn these dreams into reality

First flakes, last bike rides

Shorter and even shorter days

Will all lead the way

Anxiety aside, somehow, no matter what it always comes

Turns on snow, whether groomed or unbroken all always turn everything upright Opening  Day; I can’t wait!

Shitty snow? No; shitty attitude.

Yea, we all know it, it hasn’t snowed for a few weeks and well, there’s not much on the horizon. Many local’s have taken to longer apres and some have taken to a lot of complaining. Snow based business have requested that their employees speak positively about the conditions but I’ve seldom heard good things. I’m here to say that these folks need to change their attitude.

Yea, the snow might not be great but us locals are fortunate enough to live in one of the most beautiful places in the country and perhaps the world. Take advantage of it! This morning I decided to take my own advice. I drove over to Tiehack @ Buttermilk and slapped on the skins. When the snow is hard, uphilling can be as much fun as going down. So I turned on the tunes, this AM it was a mix of RJD2 and “Moves like Jagger” radio on Pandora. Before I knew it I was at the top. I paused to snap a panorama and then began my trip down. There is something more rewarding about earned turns and being on my tele setup made it even more fun.

So I’m here to say, get out there, try something new and don’t be afraid to challenge yourself. In recent weeks I’ve found myself skinning more often and taking more day’s to ride park. Maybe you can go for a snowshoe, or if you snowboard try skiing or vice versa. Whatever it may be, get out there and try something new. It will be way more fun then you think!
